The Sandy Beach Resort is technically in Da Nang, but it's actually half way between Hoi An and Da Nang. Free shuttle buses run both ways making it easy to get around. The resort is on Non Nuoc Beach a short walk from China Beach which was made famous by the TV series of the same name. The resort would have been very flash in its day. That day would have been one in the 1980s.
Large but dated rooms, but no complaints when you consider the price and the great location. And by far the best hotel breakfast of the trip.
Da Nang is another bustling city with not much in the way of attractions. Like the t-shirts say "Same Same". We caught the bus in to have a look around. It was too hot to walk around so we hired a couple of pedal rickshaws to do some sweating for us.
Da Nang has fat Buddhas.
Stinky markets.
And a local brew Biere Larue which is as washy as it looks.
Half a day in Da Nang was enough to see the town, markets and museums. The rickshaw dudes took us to a supermarket, the Big C. It was the first real one we'd seen for a long time. Shame we were in a hurry to get back for the bus, it would have been nice to hang around in the aircon for a while.
We get back to the bus stop and of course the gouge was on from the pedal rickshaw dudes. We did go over the initially agreed one hour and it was hot but they wanted to double the price. They got the right money for the job but not double. When you think about it it's only around one dollar your quibbling about but one dollar is a lot to them and I believe over paying is not good for anyone in the long term.
